Seminar with Melissa Cox
Saturday, October 28 @ 4:00PM
No charge to participate – Contributions to the Genetics Fund appreciated

“Dog Breeder as Scientist” – by Dr Melissa Cox shows the significance of modern genetics to dog breeders. In her talk she guides the audience through lessons in basic genetics, inheritance, and genetic diseases of the dog, the use and interpretation of geneticists’ pedigrees, data collection and how to contribute to the genetic improvement of the breed. Breeders are scientists and each breeding an experiment and Dr. Cox describes tools for how to use and interpret the results obtained from each litter. Her talk is tailored to her audience, i.e. while it is scientifically correct it maintains a down to earth approach, so that it is easily understandable by non-scientists.
